Chimney Liner Repair

A cracked or gapped liner lets heat and gases reach places they shouldn't. When it's repairable, we repair it.

Interior of a chimney liner showing buildup and wear

A damaged liner is one of the more serious chimney problems, because the liner's whole job is to keep intense heat and combustion gases contained. Cracks in clay tile, gaps at the joints, or damage from a chimney fire can allow heat to reach combustible framing and let carbon monoxide seep into living spaces.

Roosevelt Chimney Works evaluates liner damage and repairs it where repair is genuinely the right call. Some liner damage can be addressed without full replacement; other damage means the liner has reached the end of its service. We'll show you what we find on camera and give you the honest options.

Signs of liner damage

  • Pieces of clay tile appearing in the firebox.
  • Cracks or gaps visible on a camera inspection.
  • A recent chimney fire that may have cracked the tiles.
  • Draft or odor problems traced to the flue.
  • White staining or moisture inside the flue.

Repair versus replacement

We start with a camera scan to see the liner's actual condition. Isolated cracks or joint gaps in an otherwise sound clay-tile liner can sometimes be repaired. But when damage is widespread — often the case after a chimney fire or decades of moisture — repair is a false economy, and relining is the safe, lasting answer.

Our commitment is repair before unnecessary replacement, but never at the expense of safety. If the liner can be soundly repaired, we'll do that. If it can't, we'll explain exactly why and walk you through relining options.

Pittsburgh & Western PA context

Older Pittsburgh chimneys with original clay-tile liners are prime candidates for liner problems: decades of freeze-thaw and heat cycling crack the tiles and open the joints. A camera inspection is the only way to know a liner's true condition.
